Hey Oppofolk: Just a quick note about a video I made last week. I get
those stupid junk auto-dialed calls all day long on both phones and I
just happened to get one when I had my camera handy. I kept the guy on
the phone for fifteen (15!) minutes before he hung up on me.
I couldn’t be prouder.

Lately I’ve been getting a lot of robocalls that begin with “Don’t hang up the phone...”
As if that stops anyone.

Glad to see someone is taking the fight to them! I’ve been getting them with local area codes (?!!!) and it drives me nuts. Luckily they all use the same three number prefix after the area code. If I see those together, I ignore, and block!

I do the same. But realize that, if they use the same area code and prefix, you’ll still have to block 10,000 numbers to get them all, since that’s how many four-digit combinations of 0-9 are possible.

You could use wildcard characters and batch block them.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't know what it means.

On most Android phones you can tell it to block (for eg.) 812-111 *
This will block all the numbers starting with 812-111 .

Everybody who sends me an unsolicited text gets this:

Interesting. Do you know if it works with iPhones? Because pretty much the only scam calls I get are from the same prefix as my phone.

Quick googles says that there are dialer apps which can do it on an iPhone. IDK if the native dialer has that option (yet another reason i dont care about them :/ )

Thank you for stalling them, so that they didn’t get around to calling me (yet)!

Thanks.

I did this once.

The end was totally worth it.
This is why I still have a North Florida phone number after living in Oregon for 4 years. Random unfamiliar 850 number? Spam.

It’s an odd thing to insult, considering how many good players there are from Finland, compared to the rest of the world (especially when you adjust for population).

I get a ton of those on my cell. Same area code and same exchange. I don’t answer them because - luckily - my cell phone exchange is a pretty strange and uncommon number.

I was wondering how to end the call and the guy gave me a perfect ending.

Rachel quit calling me, then Brittany started. Then Heather, and now it’s Monica.

i didnt mean it as an insult.... tho... i can see how it would come across that way.. sorry about that

for clarification... used to have a picture of the banner but thats gone bye bye... retarded lion just stuck with me.... i should probably watch that if im ever in finland :)

Oh, don’t worry. They’ll be back.

I’ve also got the lion on my business cards. Many people suspect it has to do with Finland but not too many know that it is really from the hockey jersey.

I remember seeing this a while back. All those years I could have been learning to code feel wasted now.

Don Cherry still don’t like ‘em.

welp.. that just makes it all the more special when someone does get it :)

Is this a common thing in the US? I don't believe I've ever received an unsolicited phone call or SMS
![]() 10/29/2018 at 18:07 |

Yes. I get between 5 and ten a day some days. They are auto dialed and there is a recording. If you hang up on them or don’t answer, they just call back. The phone companies make so much money off the calls that they won’t help consumers make them stop.

Judging by that man’s attire, we can agree he is certifiably insane to begin with.

All the time ever since the agencies that ‘protect’ and monitor our credit scores dumped everyones data without penalty.

Sometimes I wish I could shunt a spam call to automatically be answered by a heavily distorted sample of something.
No better way to quickly ruin a (human) spam caller’s day with a noise that instantly makes you jump .

Interesting. I believe this would be highly illegal on this side of the big pond.

Phoebe is calling next, then you’ll get Ursu

I have an out o f state area code and it saves my butt so much. Instant block ftw.

Unfortunately most of my immediate family has the same exchange# so that would be a bad option for me.

Yes, but that’s “socialism.”

they’ve done this a few times on the Drew and Mike podcast. Drew strings them along far enough to the point where they ask him to spell his name (he gives them Hu Gepenis) at which point they figure out they’re being jerked around. One guy didn’t get it right away, then when he noticed there were multiple people on the other end he let out a long sigh, then started getting really profane (and creepy as hell towards Trudi.)

was that actually your nephew, or someone texting the wrong number?
![]() 10/29/2018 at 19:57 |

oh come on, this would give you instant credibility in any courtroom you walk into:
![]() 10/29/2018 at 19:59 |

well ? did you stick it inside your vest?
![]() 10/29/2018 at 20:46 |

Considering the fact I don’t have any nephews, it was either a poor attempt at a scam or a wrong number.
